We sadly report that Sarit Amrani from our neighboring community of Nokdim was shot dead by Palestinian terrorists from Arafat's Fatah organization at the gate of our town, Tekoa, on the day after Rosh Hashana. Her husband, Shai, is still in critical condition in Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. There have been at least 20 terror incidents just tonight including a powerful car bomb that was discovered and detonated but otherwise would certainly have caused hundreds of injuries and scores of deaths. Sarit and Shai Amrani had chosen to drive home during the day, since, like all of us, they presumed it was safer to avoid the roads at night. They were gunned down at 7 am right in front of Tekoa (1 mile from their home). Sarit was 26 years old and the mother of 3 including a 4 month old baby. My friend, Yossi Hymen from Nokdim, was first on the scene. He came upon the father, Shai (28) first, who was lying on the road and started to provide first aid. Shai told him to go help his wife first, who he knew was more seriously injured. Yossi found Sarit in the car without a pulse. He tried to perform resuscitation but found it futile. The children, still strapped to their seats, were screaming for their mother and begging her to wake up. I beg you too, the Jews of the United States to wake up. I beg you to send letters to President Bush and to Congress. Tell them that by rewarding PLO terror, Colin Powell's coalition strategy will lead to more destabilization, and more deaths. Tell them that you cannot fight terror by rewarding terror. This will only lead Arafat to continue to conclude that terror is profitable, even while he continues his disingenuous calls for a cease fire (his seventh this year). And tell them that Israel belongs in the anti-terror coalition, not Arafat. If you have the means, please consider donating money to our effort to make our communities safer.
